Acorny Acres"The name of 'Acorny
Acres' came about when we were building our log home in the bush, and in
the autumn the oak trees which surround us began losing their acorns.
We don't take ourselves too seriously - hence the name 'Acorny'.
Most
of the birds are carved in basswood and then painted with acrylics with
up to 12 layers of very thin coats. The birds are then finished with a
matt varnish."

Art & Janet Horton retired from
their professional careers in Washington, D.C. in 2004 and returned
to their home in Almonte, Ontario. They'd spent 34 years practicing
woodworking as a hobby and, through continuing education, developed a
wide range of skills and techniques. Through their world travels
they've drawn inspiration from a range of furniture styles. They enjoy the challenge of designing
in three dimension to visualize how a final project will look. Their
work, created from mostly local hardwoods, is intended to be
functional, practical, pleasing to look at, and even whimsical. In
addition to their furniture collection their work includes
one-of-a-kind hollow vessels, vases, burls, bowls, goblets, jewelry,
pepper mills and more.
